When moving from Canada to USA and dealing with USA customs, paperwork and proper documentation is a must.
First, let’s take a look at the legal aspect when moving from Canada to USA.
Usually, MVL Movers do not require your presence at the USA customs, but we need copies of the following documents.
• Valid passport
• 3299 Customs Form completed by MVL Movers
• Valid passport
• Any valid documents such as Work or Study Visa
• Copy of I94 form received upon your entry in USA
• 3299 Customs Form completed by MVL Movers
• Valid passport
• Proof of Real Estate Ownership or Lease agreement in USA
• Proof of Canadian Residence
• 3299 Custom Form completed by MVL Movers
MVL Movers will make sure all the documentation is in order. However, if an issue arises, your presence might be necessary to clear your goods at the nearest customs office to your new home.
For all non-residents and part-time residents moving from Canada to USA, you must cross the border first to make sure your immigration status is clear. Additional charges might arise if our truck must be put on hold or returned back to Canada due to your immigration status issues.
Second step is to figure out what is legal and when you need to pay custom dues.
If you have been in possession of your personal belongings and household goods for at least a year, they usually enter USA on a duty-free basis. They should, however, be properly listed on 3299 Custom Form. MVL Movers, with your assistance, will complete this form during the loading process
